Question Caseta Smart Fan Control hum

Last weekend I removed the Maestro fan receivers for all three of my Hunter fans, and wired in Caseta dimmers for the lights, and Caseta smart fan controls (PD-FSQN-WH-R) for each of the fans. All three fans now produce a small hum when active, more noticeable at lower speeds. One of the fans is brand new, the others are several years old but in good condition.

As mentioned earlier, the old canopy receivers are gone. I *have* wired neutral for the switches (joining the fan neutral, and the switch neutral, to the neutral wires entering the switchbox).

If I place a dumb switch on the fan, and use the pull chains, there's no hum.

    Is this normal?

Not normal. Make sure you have the pull chain set to its highest speed. Using a fan on low speed, then pushing it lower with the fan control can cause hum.

I just double checked that, thanks for pointing that out. I'm also noticing that speeds 1-3 on the control are indistinguishable in speed from one another (medium low), and 4 is high. Three different models of Hunter fans, varying ages. Three different Caseta switches, all new.

Could you please provide the model numbers of these three Hunter fans?

Newest one is 53331 (Crown Canyon). Need to get the ladder out for the other two, but can do that.

OK. I have them all now, they are:

    Crown Canyon, #53331
    Stratford II, #20582
    Coastal Breeze, #23500

    (they're all pull-chain fans)

Hi, I'm having the same exact problem! Just installed 3 FSQN fan switches and every ceiling fan hums at any level. No hum with dumb switches in the last 2 years! My ceiling fans are Casablanca CC5C31C94.Have you found a way to get rid of the hum? I'd love to keep the FSQN switches.I'm not an electrician but maybe because of load issue: the fact that breaker is sharing recess lights, outlets and ceiling fans?Appreciate any insight and hopefully solution :)

The FSQN is rated for fans with split-capacitor motors. These generally have pull chains for control. I could not find your model on the Hunter/Casablanca site. I looked at some similar fans and they don't say if they are split-capacitor or not. It's worth a call to Hunter to find out.

I would also check the wiring. Make sure you have the neutral connected. Not all white wires are neutrals.

Make sure your pull-chain is set to the highest speed.
