Fan control with Craftmade fans
I have Craftmade ceiling fans throughout our house. I installed a RD-2ANF and that didn't work. It would never actually adjust the speed. It seems these fans have some type of propriety control system maybe.
Any tips for controlling Craftmade fans?

Without knowing which fan you have, that is tough. Do you have a part number, or can you get us the link from their website that matches what you have?

The 2ANF work great for controlling AC motor ceiling fans. Some recent model fans are using DC motors or have their own proprietary control system. There aren't any 3rd party controls that will work, the 2ANF included. Best bet is look at the fan spec sheet. If it says DC motor you might have a problem. If they list their own remote as the sole option you might also have a problem.

I think this is the problem. I finally found the model number – MND72. It's definitely a DC motor.
How do others handle this? I'm thinking of just using an RD-RS switch and keeping the fan speed constant. Then using the proprietary remote to adjust the speed when needed.

trying to reply - constant 404.

I use a switch like you want. On / Off is sufficient.

RD-RS is the remote switch, for 3way/4way installs on the RRD-8ANS. The RD-RS will not control anything by itself. Use the RRD-8ANS for on/off. Unfortunately, you can only ensure that the fan is off. No way to know what the fan will do when powered on. YMMV, test it out and see how the fan behaves on power up.

I spoke to tech support at kischler awhile back and asked them if I could switch power to a DC fan and they claimed that doing so would 'damage the motor' seemed a bit dubious, but that was their take....

The convenience of using an RRD-8ANS for On/Off is so great, I'll replace the fan if issues occur. I have no worries about this.
