MACL-153M Dimmer Stopped Working
My Lutron MACL-153M Dimmer Switch after 4-years of working suddenly stopped working correctly. Now it seems a small amount of electricity gets to the lights. They barely light up and flicker. I purchased a new Lutron dimmer switch and installed it correctly. The first time I turned it on it worked correctly. The next time I turned it on it barely lite the lights that flickered. I am puzzled about what has happened. Hope someone has some ideas to offer.

Check for a 2nd switch (3-way). The MACL-153 will work with a single mechanical 3-way but the wiring has to be adjusted. I have found a switch in a bedroom that is only used when grandma visits every couple of years.
Make sure the polarity is correct (i.e. power in on the black). This doesn't seem likely since it has been working for some time.
The lights not turning off is a symptom of feedback on the neutral. Make sure the neutrals are separated between circuits.

Hello Michael5167,
Thank you for your post!
When installing the new dimmer, did you turn the power on or off?
Additionally, was there any wires on the blue screw terminal for the original MACL installed?
Finally, what happens if you use a different/new lamp such as a 40W incandescent or halogen bulb, do you still have the same issue?
We look forward to hearing from you!
Julia K.

Some of my Lutrons I bought 3 years ago are not working well with dimmable LEDs. These are working flawlessly.
