    Extracting old Files

Does anyone else have issues extracting old files. I probably have a 50/50 success rate. The most common error I get is a "Jet engine database..." Which basically means the file is corrupt, even though it's still working.

We are called in to at least 1-2 jobs a month that we didn't install, and there is no program to be found. So this is a pretty big issue for me. I've tried all the different communication types, and have managed to make my XP and Vista laptops limp along. It doesn't seem to matter what laptop I'm using. Firewall are off, etc...

Is there a step by step instruction guide anywhere?

It would be much easier to upsell a new QS System if I didn't have to start from scratch. The old files are a goldmine, and usually reduce the cost of the new systems by thousands of labor hours alone, which make the new systems easier to sell.

    Thanks

50% is pretty high. You are not actually extracting the working program. If the previous programmer selected "synchronized" during upload, a spare/backup copy of the program is available. Data corruption and age makes failure rate pretty high.

Tech support has a database repair program but the success rate is pretty low. That's not a reflection of their skill, the DBs are just wacked. I have had some success hacking the Interactive DBs to get the basics but there is still a lot of rewrite involved.

Another common error is “extraction aborted”

It logs in and seems to be extracting, but something aborts the attempt

Make sure your processor model numbers and quantity match exactly. Save your temp database before attempting to extract. I have no idea why or what saving does.
