The base dimmer is the same. The "R" usually means there is a remote/companion dimmer in the package. If your lights are controlled from a 2nd location, you would need a remote.
H usually means clamshell packaging. The stuff you need a chainsaw to open.
My apologies. I should have looked first instead of relying on records from the remodel. The switch in the hall bath (and I'll wager the master) is MACL-153M.
Is the one in the picture different from what you recommend? If not is there anything I can do to stop the "flash"?
Thanks for your help. We are considering removing the switches and looking for a different brand since there is no Lutron solution. An expensive mistake on our part.
The MACL-153M is rated for LEDs. However, at this time there is no industry standard for LEDs. Because they are all made differently, they will all react differently to the dimming signals that dimmers create.
The flash on you are experiencing is due to the initial inrush your LEDs generate with the dimming cycle overwhelming the LEDs. Think of it kind of like turning on cold fluorescent tubes on a mechanical switch and the flicker and even buzz when they first turn on.
There is a way we might be able to solve your issue. The MACL-153M has a fade on time, by increasing this time you reduce the initial inrush current. This could eliminate the flash on altogether.
Below is a link to the advanced programming guide of the MACL-153M, page 7 is the fade on time.
If I wait a while that the length of which not determined the light flashes when I turn it on. If I then turn it off and back on it does not flash. Wait a while and it flashes.
