Thread: MA-1000-WH-CSA runs hot

    MA-1000-WH-CSA runs hot

I replaced a MA-1000-WH-CSA with a new dimmer, because it was warm to touch. I also replaced the remote for this dimmer, MA-RH-WH-CSA. The new dimmer (MA-1000-WH-CSA) also runs hotter that normal. How warm should the dimmer be with less than 1000W load?

I think the spec is something like 70 degrees above ambient. They will get warm but you should be able to put your hand on it and not feel like you are going to leave some skin behind. If you are concerned you should measure the actual load with an amp meter.

I also recommend Claro plates. The metal plate screw on traditional plates screws into the heat sink and can get warmer than the surrounding plastic.

    Hello Keen Construction,

    Thank you for your post!

Are dimmers are rated to get 150 degrees Fahrenheit over room temperature (68 degrees). As long as you are within the load capacity and it is installed properly there is no concern. If you use our screw less Claro faceplates it will minimize the amount of the heat you feel.

I have included a link to a document explaining this below:

    Hope this helps!

I think there is a type-oh in that document. You can get 2nd degree burns at 131 degrees. Water boils at 212 degrees. That document says the heat sink can reach 220 plus degrees??

    Hello randyc,

We have confirmed with our engineering team the UL listing of our dimmer and have updated the letter. Please see the link below for the new values.
