RRD-H6BRL no longer controls lights, stay on all the time

I have a RRD-H6BRL-WH that was installed in 2013, and has worked great. For the past few months, the two sconces that it was connected to no longer respond, those two lights just stay on all the time. The keypad buttons still work. I can reactivate it using the RadioRa2 Essentials software, but it doesn't fix the problem. A friend thinks that I need to replace the keypad (very expensive, about $340!), and thinks it may be damaged from using LED bulbs in the sconces.

Any way to fix this? What do you think?

    Thanks!
    Jeff

Have you tried installing incandescent lamps?
The hybrid wasn't designed for LED. It's very possible that:
    1. The installer didn't connect the neutral knowing that it's optional.
    2. The keypad will work fine with incandescent lamps.
    3. Connecting the keypad to neutral may 'fix' the always-on behavior.
    4. The hybrid's dimmer IS damaged.

    Things to try:
    1. Reboot the keypad and see if the dimmer portion works well for another short period.
    2. Install incandescent lamps and see if it works fine.
    3. IF 1 and 2 fail to fix the problem, sounds like you have a damaged keypad or (unlikely) a wiring problem.

Post back with the results and let us know what you find.

I'm going to second digit's excellent response, but I would flip 1 and 2 under things to try.

Chances are the dimmer behind the keypad is done. I would call Lutron tech to see if it would be under warranty, but other posters are correct. The original HKP was a neutral optional device that was NOT rated for LEDs. The new version- the RRD-HN6BRL-WH, does have an LED and C*L rating from Lutron. Also important, what phase dimming are the sconces? If they are reverse phase, then the HKP, no matter which version, are NOT rat4ed for ELV/Reverse phase/trailing edge. I would start with the sconces and find out what dimming they need, then decide where to go with the HKP.

Thanks for all of your quick replies!

I did try incandescent bulbs, which didn't help.
I did reset to factory default, this didn't fix it.
I checked the wiring, the neutral was installed.

So sounds like the dimmer is damaged.

I'm not sure about the phase dimming. These are pretty old sconces from around 2000.

I'll call Lutron to see if it's under warranty.

BTW, The bulbs were standard LED bulbs from Costco...do you think they were the culprit? Have you seen damage to these dimmers from LED bulbs being used? If so, I now know to avoid them in my other old HKPs!

Quite possible its a trailing edge dimmable only fixture. Or some sort of incompatible electronic transformer inside the fixture.
