    Survey Monkey- Caseta Fan Speed

I created a survey to see if people are interested. I'll be happy to share the results. I am NOT a Lutron employee, this doesn't mean that anything is coming, or I know information I shouldn't (I don't), or imply that I have any pull with the mothership.

Thanks for the survey. I'm a homeowner and personally would buy about five if Lutron made them. I don't know anything about what all goes into designing a new product but here are my thoughts...

    1. The design can essentially look and function just like the Maestro fan and light control

    2. Adding the Clear Connect technology is all that is really needed

    3. A special Pico Remote can be designed and made as an additional purchase for those that want a handheld remote or a wall mounted 3 way switch

    4. By way of the Smart Bridge and the app, the user can program schedules, set sleep timers, etc.

I think this is very possible and with most of the design already there along with the Homekit enabled Smart Bridge, Lutron could have these on shelves pretty quick. I could be wrong but my feeling is that Lutron is holding back in hopes that people will opt for there more pricey "whole home" solutions. If I was building a custom home or perhaps my last home or my dream home, I would consider it. That's not that case for me or the majority of people I believe. I have Caseta Wireless controlling my entire downstairs. The lack of a fan/light control keeps me from moving it upstairs. Hunter Fans just released the first of three Homekit fans. I also suggested that they make a Homekit in-wall fan/light controller. I'd prefer Caseta Wireless but at this point, I'm throwing my money at the one that gets it done first.

    Some results- https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-L26P58FM/

Mostly homeowners, and they want multiple fan speed controls , under $100. I personally think it won't make it under $100 as the old HW fan speed was $250 and RA2 is $200. I think a target price of $150 would be spot on within a Caseta system. Standalaone that might be too steep.

I think $150 is workable for a fan/light controller. If they make a controller strictly for a fan then maybe it can be a little less expensive. I hope to see new products at the next CES although as of late, many of the products presented are taking an eternity to hit the shelves (if at all). I'll probably buy one of Hunter's Homekit fans before the year is out just to give one a try. If they can make a decent model that falls under the $300 mark then I'm sold.

I was one of the people that selected < $100, but truthfully, that was coming from a place of ignorance. I figured a fan control shouldn't cost much more than a dimmer, but it sounds like I'm wrong. I'd be willing to pay $150, though.

Yep, I am a instant buyer of 4 units, + 2 more if they have 3way capability. And that just to start.

Every facebook post they make, I add in a comment about needing to control a fan. lol

    I did pick the 100 -150 range.

Lutron makes the Caseta switch $60
they make the Light / fan Maestro $60

They have the parts, piece, and tooling already done, they just need to add in the clear connect and update the app.

Fan/light is probably a no-go. Too much going on in a single gang. Otherwise we would have probably seen a Maestro Wireless set up already. The fan/light combo also runs on a module up in the canopy, usually on a single 14/2 circuit. This would put a motor load (the fan) on the same neutral as the lights. If you used LED lights in this scenario, you would most likely always get pulsing and flickering when the fan was on.

I do hope we see a standalone fan control for Caseta, similar to the RRD-2ANF-WH (which was based on the HWI fan speed control).

What are some of the folks on this board using for fan switches in the meantime, for automation?
i have a couple of ge zwave fan switches. Actually a rebadged box as the Lowes IRIS. But a ge switch inside.
work fine on the newer fan but on the old one low and med speed are too slow and high is, high. So so I hard set the ceiling fan to medium and use the high setting on the switch to trigger medium .
using a wink hub and Alexa. Also works with alarm.com/Qolsys hub.
i suspect most folks on the board use at least two manufacturers hubs..
