Any plan to develop a Dimmer Outlet?

    Hi,

Is there a plan to develop a dimmer outlet like the one from Insteon for Caseta Wireless?

Lutron has specific outlets for dimming, but you are actually wiring that portion of the outlet to an in-wall dimmer. It is against code to dim a convenience outlet (an outlet you can easily reach and plug things into). Dimming something like a Dyson vacuum could conceivably create a fire hazard. Thus Lutron does not make such a device and most likely never will. The plug in modules for Caseta, RA2, and HWQS will do the same job.

    Thanks, makes sense.

If it is against code, why can Insteon sell them?

Having the build in outlet is far neater than a plug in.

Go down the page and read the Owners Manual PDF.
They "modify" the lamp plug also. They call it a Dimmer Key. A little piece that slides over the prongs.
Never used one but looks like it must activate the receptacle some how.
What I don't like is.... Owner moves lamp." hey what is this extra piece? Don't know. Throw it away. How come nothing work in this old lamp location?"

With Lutrons plug it is the plug. Can't be removed with out some thought. And no other devices can physically fit into the receptacle.
As far as a neater look. Most of my lamp modules are hidden behind or under something. Rarely see them.
