HomeWorks QS software on MAC computers with Windows programs

The HomeWorks QS software was designed and spec'd to work on a PC environment and Windows operating system. However, there have been tested a few programs on MAC computers that run a version of the Windows operating systems that have worked with our HomeWorks QS Software. Below is a list of the tested configurations.

    • Boot Camp running Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
      • Pros: Natively boots into Windows, no networking/connectivity issues and faster software performance due to lack of virtualization layer
      • Cons: Can't easily access Mac OS software

    • Parallels version 5 or later * running Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 **
      • Pros: Full access to Mac OS software and files, easily switch between HWQS and other applications
      • Cons: May require bridging network settings*** into virtual machine for proper connectivity, slower software performance due to virtualization layer.

    • VMware Fusion running Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 **
      • Pros: Full access to Mac OS software and files, easily switch between HWQS and other applications
      • Cons: May require bridging network settings into virtual machine for proper connectivity, slower software performance due to virtualization layer

    * We have had limited success with Parallels 4 or earlier, so it is recommended to use 5 or later
** If using a virtual machine (Parallels or VMware Fusion), you may need to enable "Bridged Network" mode in the virtual machine software for proper network connectivity with the HWQS processors.
***To bridge a nerwork, please follow the steps below or see the attached image

    1. Click on the top menu.
    2. Select the 'Devices' dropdown
    3. Select the 'Network 1' dropdown
    4. Select 'Bridged Network' Dropdown
    5. Select 'Ethernet'

    Smile Mac OSX Software

With the increasing use of Mac Books in the field (last Lutron Seminar had over 50% in the class), when will Lutron step up to the plate and write the software for the Mac OSX system?

I run a mac with parallels and have no issues with qs on a virtual win7 machine. I run winxp virtual machine for Illumination just feel it runs better on xp then 7 for me. The only way to run windows is on a mac :)

When is Apple going to step up to the plate and release the needed source code to make it easier

Easier to do what? Apple has some of the best cross platform compilers in the business. It is possible to write the code once and have it work on both Mac OSX and Windows, but it takes well experienced programmers. Filemaker is a great example.

While I also run HWQS on XP, in Parallels, and it works OK, it is a compromise.
