Can vacancy sensor keep ceiling fan on while sleeping?

I'm considering trying to use a ceiling or wall mount vacancy sensor to turn a ceiling fan off when the a bedroom is unoccupied, while hoping it can keep the fan on while an occupant is asleep. So I would set it up for a 30 minute countdown, and use the maximum sensitivity, and optimize the location.

Just curious as to whether anyone has had success with this. Thanks.

Would be an interesting application to say the least. I don't think anyone has even thought of this yet. Try and report back, it looks like you are on the right track as far as programming the sensor.

I can't say that I've ever heard of anyone trying this kind of an application. In theory it should work as long as they move around within that 30 minute timeout period.

At a certain point you have to ask whether it's worth depending on occupancy sensing or just going without. Fan use is pretty personal and can vary based on all kinds of factors. Yeah, there's lots of times where you'd really want the fan running. But on the few occasions where you DON'T then how are you going to set up the automation interface to tell it not to run the fan? Sometimes a tabletop Pico goes a long way...
