    PD-6WCL, PD-5ANS and LUT-MLC

I have two minor problems I am hoping might be solved by a LUT-MLC.

First I have a intermentent ghosting problem with the PD-5ANS controlling a single generic 12W LED bulb. If I understand correctly this exactly the sort of problem LUT-MLC is supposed to solve.

Second, I have a PD-6WCL controlling a pair of HALO RL56069S1EWHR. Most of the time when we turn these on green lights come on immediately, but the lights them selves take 0 to 60 seconds to actually light. The RL56069S1EWHR are listed as being compatible in the database, but they only draw 630mA each, so I am wondering if they are falling bellow some minimum load. I have seen conflicting reports if an LUT-MLC would help.

    Thanks
    -John

Hello John welcome to the forums,

The LUT-MLC can absolutely be used on the PD-5ANS. This will help to absorb that excess current that is escaping out to the LED bulbs. We would be happy to help further by reaching out to support@lutron.com or by calling us at 1-888-588-7661.

However, the LUT-MLC cannot be installed on the PD-6WCL. The capacitor would fail if used in this configuration. We have tested the RL56069S1EWHR back in 2021 and it has passed from our findings. Could you please provide the exact wattage that is printed on your fixtures?

I think I can figure out how to install the LUT-MLC, but will reach out if I run into problem.

As for the lights on the PD-6WCL, it doesn't list the wattage, but just the amperage:

Could you please try installing an incandescent bulb in place of one HALO light? If you do not have an incandescent, a different make and model dimmable LED bulb will suffice. We are curious if this behavior will follow on another fixture.

Oops, 63mA of course! What is an order of magnitude among friends!

Ok I pulled "light #2" and replaced it with:

    - A 40W incandescent bulb
    - A 5.5W CREE TA19-04530MDFH25-12DE26-1
    - A 10W CREE TA19-08030MDFH25-12DE26-1 (I use this bulb in groups of 5 or 3 with other PD-6WCL in my house and they work fine)

In each case, "light #1", the remaining RL56069S1EWHR, and the substitute bulb lit fine.

I also tested light #2 and light #1 each alone...when operating alone they show the same
symptoms as when operating together...thought operating alone light number #2 become more bi-modal -- generally either lighting immediately, or going more than 30 seconds without lighting.

Also, while they are "warming up", they do flicker at bit, generally its very faint, thought sometimes the flashes are brighter.

Thanks for sharing those results! That is some interesting behavior. Just to clarify, when an incandescent was in light #2 the dimmer still took quite some time to reach full intensity (even when tested alone)? This same behavior followed on those CREE bulbs as well?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. With any of those other bulbs replacing light #2 things worked as expected. Both the remaining RL56069S1EWHR (light #1) and the incandescent/5.5W LED/10W LED came on without delay.

Thanks for clarifying that for us. This furthermore proves it may be some sort of incompatibility between this fixture and dimmer. However, this is not a safety concern and nothing is defective. It also appears that the driver in these may be older/newer than the ones we tested in 2021. We would like to discuss this further. I have opened a case for you under 02928726. Could you please email into support@lutron.com and put "CASE#02928726" into the subject line? Alternatively, you may reach out to us over the phone at 1(888)588-7661.
