Question 3-way dimmer used in single pole mode

I am using a DVCL-153P as a single pole switch but, following the instructions, the on position has the rocker switch rotated down. This is opposite to the conventional position of rocker being up for on. Can I change this by simply connecting the unused 3-way wire for the load instead of the designated wire as per the instructions?

Thanks for the confirmation. I wonder why the instructions do not mention this detail even if it is a minor one.

The instructions show capping of the red/white wire. If you have the dimmer installed right side up, up will be on.

The printing on the mounting tabs is right side up and the ground wire is clamped in the bottom left corner as shown in the instructions yet the on position is reversed. If switching the leads as mentioned earlier is not a problem, then the switch should operate correctly unless there is some hidden problem I do not know about. I think it is a design or manufacturing error. This could be corrected by just one sentence in the instructions however.
