Maestro LED dimmer + 4 speed fan switch with a 3 speed fan

Lutron makes a simple NON LED dimmer with fan switch, but apparently has never updated it for LED's. So we bought a Maestro, which is designed for a 4 speed fan plus LED lights. Our fan, though, only has 3 speeds (it's about 20 years old, maybe older). Will it work, how do we wire it, what issues will we face?

Yes. Use the chain to put the fan on high speed then use the Maestro to control the speed. If your fan has a wireless or in-wall remote you may be able to remove the receiver. if you can't remove the receiver, you may be able to put it on high then use the Maestro to control speed.

We are replacing the older, non-LED Lutron dimmer and fan switch, so the fan chain switch is set to high speed. No remotes. I am curious - how does this new unit actually control the speed versus how the old traditional Lutron unit does?

    Thanks!

The older Maestro fan/light controls used a module that was installed in the canopy of the fan. This would allow you to only need one wire going from the in-wall control up to the fan but control the fan and light separately since the module in the canopy did all of the work. The newer MACL-LFQ Maestro fan/light control requires two wires going from the control up to the fan and light as it does all of the speed control and dimming from the control itself.

I'm not asking about the old Maestro Unit. I'm asking about old units like the Skylark. Great except that it makes noise when used with LED's. So, IOTW, how does the Skylark work, and how does the current Maestro work?

The Lutron Maestro dimmer with a fan switch is designed for LED lights and a 4-speed fan, but it can still be used with a 3-speed fan. Ensure compatibility by consulting the product manual or contacting Lutron's customer support. Proper wiring is crucial, and if you're not experienced, it's advisable to hire an electrician and you can try individual sports that reduce stress.

Dimming LED lights should work smoothly or Is Hand Charger For Smartphone Effective Or Not?, but incandescent or halogen bulbs may cause compatibility issues or flickering. Use compatible LED bulbs for optimal performance. Adjusting the wiring or configuring the dimmer may be necessary for the 3-speed fan. Follow the installation instructions and refer to Lutron's guidance for specific setup details.

It was installed about a year ago, and works very nicely both with the fan and its current LED bulbs.
