Can I use a RRD-6ND dimmer as the main and RD-RS switch as the companion in a 3/4 way configuration, or does the main dimmer need matching companion dimmer?

It will work. I have done it before, just lose the dimming function on the remote. Also works for the RD-RD and a switch when you don't have an RD-RS, but ends up confusing the customer- they try to dim something that only switches.

Interesingly, Maestro switches and dimmers all seem to work with other maestro devices whether they are ra2, homeworks QS, or even standalone or older generations. Just different branding and slightly different plates (with the little arrow on them). Lutron did a great job with that because once I was doing a job and what we thought was a 3-way turned out to be a 4-way switch so we were able to just go buy one without putting in an order.
What remote device works for a multi-location fan speed control installation? I'm guessing a switch works but is there an official fan speed companion/remote/accessory device?
Use the RD-RD for fans to be able to control speeds.

It's odd that they don't let you attach them to the fans in the software though...I mean of course it doesn't matter at all but the remote dimmers attach to dimmers and remote switches attach to switches so this might just be a little oversight!
