    Maestro MAW-603 stopped working

Few days ago, one of my 3-way Lutron dimmer sets stopped working. Lights are on, and there is no way to turn them off from the main switch or the accessory switch. LEDs on the main switch are off. I found the model numbers of the switches after removing wallplates: Maestro Multi-Location Incandescent Dimmer MAW-603 and Maestro MA-R.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot them?

    Thanks.

It's likely the dimmer or the companion is dead. The FASS (gap switch) should still work. Depending on the age of your dimmer it slides left/right or pulls out. It is located just below the paddle.

    Hi Randy,

You are right. FASS switches are still working. I slid one of them to the left, the lights are off now. Thanks for your advice!

Is there any way to determine which one is dead?

The dimmer has the most electronics and is the most expensive so it is probably the dimmer. If the companion (MA-R) won't turn the lights off with the paddle then the dimmer is bad. The companion could also be bad but you won't be able to test it until you replace the dimmer.

I tested all combinations of the FASS switches, they behave like the following:

    D
immer FASS: Off, Companion FASS: Off > Lights off
Dimmer FASS: On, Companion FASS: Off > Lights off
Dimmer FASS: Off, Companion FASS: On > Lights off
Dimmer FASS: On, Companion FASS: On > Lights on

    So both
    Dimmer and Companion are dead?

Mark, your FASS switches sound like they are operating correctly on both devices. What you can do is remove the MA-R from the equation and bypass it so that the MAW-603 is the only device installed. Once the MA-R has been bypassed, turn the power back on and see if the lights are controllable from the MAW-603. If they are not controllable, it sounds like the triac has been shorted within the dimmer and it will need to be replaced. The replacement dimmer model is MACL-153M.

Thank you, Kyle. I tested as you suggested. The MAW-603 switch is not working. I will order a MACL-153M to replace it.
