RRD-8ANS in Wall Mounted Metal Box (Garage)

Wanting to know what others are doing to with wall mounted metal boxes that are in garage. The top and bottom fins are too big for the metal plate. Need to run down to Home Depot to find a permanent solution. Since this is my house I put electrical tape over the RRD-8ANS terminals and put a plastic cover plate on until I can get this resolved.

Trim with tin snips. The metal cuts pretty easily.

Thanks. I was thinking about doing that but wanted to confirm before cutting the >$100 switch :)Has anyone had reception issues with RadioRA2 stuff in metal boxes like this? The main repeater is in the garage ceiling about 15 feet away from this switch.

I have something almost identical at a much greater distance through two stucco walls and it works great.

Exactly the problem I ran into today!

Ran into this exact problem - thank you for the solution about Trimming with Tin Snips. Based on the 'ears' that lose some capability when trimmed, I was glad to hear we could trim the tops to make it fit.

No problem. I trimmed two different RRD-8ANS switches and had no issues.

I ran into the same issue with some surface mounted electrical boxes in the garage to control landscape and security lighting. I ended up using LMJ-16R-DV-B SoftSwitch RF modules instead of the 8ANS. The advantage is the modules can handle a full 15 amps if needed and only cost a few dollars more. If 8 amps is enough, trimming the 8ANS should be fine especially with a metal switch cover which should make up for the lost heat sink from trimming the switch.
