Maestro dimmer w/ mechanical 3-way - what does it do?

I read in the installation instructions that a Maestro dimmer can be installed with a mechanical 3-way switch.
    .
    • Do the lights still fade on and off when the switch is used or is it instant on/off?
    • Is up always on and down always off, or does the state toggle whenever the switch is flipped regardless of its original position?

    Thanks.

The lights will fade on/off. The 3-way is being used as a contact closure so lights will toggle regardless of its original position.

I believe this only works with the MACL-153 and possibly some of the Maestro Wireless (not RA2) dimmers.
