Thread: Two controllers, two lights - programming question

Two controllers, two lights - programming question

I have a lutron smart switch that controls the light in the hallway at the bottom of our stairs.
I have a pico dimmer control at the top of the stairs.
This allows us to turn the lights on and off from
the top of the stairs on the way up or down.

I want to add a smart switch to the walk in closet under the stairs.
When I turn this on using the paired remote I would also like the down stairs lights to come on.
However when I use the controller at the top of the stairs I do NOT want the light under the stairs to come on.

So I want controller 1 to only control light 1 and I want controller 2 to control lights 1 and 2.

    Is this possible?

You did not mention if you had a Smart Bridge or were running these as stand alone dimmers. This can be done, depends on if you want to keep the existing Pico. I would program both dimmers to the Pico. Top will be both on. Then set the "favorite" round center button to have the stair light on and the closet light off. May not be the cleanest, as you naturally want to use the top "on" button the most and may not need the closet on all the time. Another option would be the 4 button scene Pico. You would lose dimming with this, but could set the top button for stairs on/closet off. Set the second button for stairs on/closet on. Third button could be stairs low/closet off. Bottom button would always be all off.

    Thank you for your comment!!

    Apologies - I have a smart bridge.

All I want to do is pair one pico to two smart switches and another pico to just one of these switches. I’m surprised there is not a simpler and more elegant solution.

You can absolutely do what you are asking. Add the pico into the system and assign it to the dimmers/switches you want. Because a SmartBridge is there, you can assign any number of Picos to the dimmer or switch in the app.

    You are totally right.
During the setup process you are only invited to pair the pico with a single device but from
The app you can pair it with multiple. Super easy and straight forward.

Maybe I need a master pico - whole house on, whole house off! Light the whole place up like a Christmas tree!

Thanks again for all the help - greatly appreciated.
