    exterior yard string lights

ive plugged in yard string lights into a Lutron plug in lamp dimmer. after dark when I press off button, lights remain dimly lit. during daytime, when I press off button, lights turn completely off. id like lights to turn lights off completely at night time. anyone ??

Try throwing a small phone charging USB cube on the other side of the plug in. It will bleed the small load the dimmer always puts on the line to keep the radio alive.

The lights are staying on during the day as well. There is no photo sensor, etc. in the plug-in dimmer. The lights are just being overwhelmed by daylight.

The plug-in dimmer can be converted to switch mode. That may help with the ghosting and allow the addition of a MLC.
