    Keypad Behavior

Just installed a W6BRL. The top button is meant to control a table lamp (attached to a 3PD-1 plug-in dimmer). I programmed the button as Toggle Control/ Room monitoring.

    • First press turns the lamp on. LED is lit for about 1 second and then turns off
    • Next press… nothing happens
    • A double-tap on that 1st button turns the lamp off (I didn’t think you could double-tap a keypad button.)

I then programmed all 6 buttons as above. Button 2-6 act as I expected. 1st press on; 2nd press off.

Thought maybe it was a bad keypad so I swapped it out with another W6BRL. Same results!

    What am I missing?

It has been a while since I have seen this issue. I think resetting both devices back to factory defaults cured the issue. It does seem odd because the issue is only button 1.

Also, make sure the programmed level is not zero. This will confuse the LED on a toggle button.

    • Tried Deactivate-->Factory Reset--> Reactivate a number of times. No Joy.
    • Tried assigning Button 1 to a different device. Same behavior.
    • Tried changing to Path of Light. Same behavior.

One other piece of information. In Essentials, on the activate screen, I have the ability to “flash” each activated device…except for the troublesome keypad and a tabletop keypad. The tabletop works fine.

    Pulling (what’s left) hair out.

I have a nickle on a corrupt or partial corrupt file.
    Ideas
Firmware update. I have had so many problems that a update has fixed. Even if it all ready has the latest firmware a refresh can help.
BUT FIRST pull a support file. May be something in there that can give you a clue. Firm update wipes out all the previous info.

Delete keypad from file. Transfer. Add back in and transfer. Why? Cuss.
Sometimes my trouble shooting has a lot of "WHY? Because"

If you telnet in do you see the button press and or release?

Try moving the repeater closer. I had that experience.

Second this, before re-doing the entire project.

Try creating another keypad in the software next to the bad one in question. Copy all programming (no concerns here for a hybrid). (pro tip- right click on the wallplate of the original dimmer and "copy keypad programming", go to replacement and right click wallplate and "paste"- faster than copying and pasting 6 times)
Factory default the keypad, then try to activate as the "replacement". Transfer and test. If it clears your issue, go back into the software and delete the original keypad and re-transfer to remove it from the main repeater. Test again to be sure.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Nothing worked.

I did swap the W6BRL out for a hybrid (HN6BRL). Guess what? The HN6BRL works as designed.

Let's see what Lutron support has to say...

    Hello rgiampo1,
    Thank you for the post.
Please send in a support file generated with the rev of the file prior to correcting the issue with the hybrid keypad. Once we have this we can further investigate the issue. Send the support file to systemsupport@lutron.com.

Just wanted to close the loop on this issue. Turns out that it was a bad device. Lutron sent a replacement and life is now good...
