Maestro Occupancy Sensor - slow to turn on lights

Three way environment, laundry room with two doors. Occupancy sensor on garage side. If I come into the room nearest the sensor lights some on quickly. If I come into the room from the door about 7 feet away noticeable for lights coming on probably two seconds from the time my body is in sight of occupancy sensor.

Setting are set to most sensitive. So, how does the sensor detect movement, sound or what?
Would it be better to have two occupancy sensors in this three way configuration?

You didn't specify a model number but most of the Maestro sensors use Passive Infrared (PIR) to detect motion. There are a couple of models that use dual-technology (PIR and ultrasound).

Proximity to the sensor will have an effect. However, I would not expect a 2-second delay at a distance of 7 feet.

The sensor has a natural light detector. To adjust it, manually turn lights on within 5 seconds of motion. Heat can also affect operation. Proximity to a dryer or an HVAC vent may cause issues.

The sensor is a MS-OPS5M unit. I switched out the sensor with another one and there is no difference.

It was recommended that I switch to a MS-BI02 unit. Do you know if this unit switches faster -- milliseconds wise? The BI02 is $75 so don't want to waste money
