The wiring to the existing mechanical switch has a red wire / black wire and bare copper ground. This is in a 4 gang switch array and there is a White wire bundle in the box but nothing is connected to it. Cannot get the unit to work?

Sorry, got the issue resolved. Human error. While replacing multiple switches make sure you are working on the correct switch.
