slab warming with HVAC slab sensors

Has any Lutron dealer succeeded in deploying a Lutron HVAC controller wired to a slab sensor for hydronic radiant slab control?

This won't be primary heat, just bathroom floor warming, and the design team flipped from electric mat to hydronic slab. They want a Lutron keypad button to toggle floor warming on and off from a preset setpoint. I can simply use CCO to interrupt the output of someone else's thermostat but I figured it's worth asking if anyone on the forum has researched or deployed this type of control using the Lutron LR-HVAC-INT-FLSH with another vendor's slab sensor.

    thanks!

This tekmar slab sensor is also 10k @ 77 degree so it should work fairly accurately but most sensors have this same spec but with slightly different resistence curves which means as you get further away from 77 degrees the temperature will be off slightly which isn’t really that big of a deal. The Lutron sensor’s doesn’t match the honeywell sensor’s curve or the aprilaire’s curve etc. The honey touchpro actually only has a surface mount sensor not a flush sensor so if you use the lutron or aprilaire sensor you temp will lose accuracy as you move away from 77 degrees.

Thanks for sensor info. Have you used the Lutron HVAC controller in conjunction with this slab sensor to control hydronic radiant heat?

No but the spec is similar. Currently I’m working on a project with 25 radiant zones and we’re using Lutron Honeywell Touch Pro T-stat with the Lutron in wall sensor. I think the Aprilaire matched the Honeywell resistence curve better but the client like the size of the Lutron sensor and not being mudded in. We’re not using slab sensor since there’s really no need or reason to use them. Every zone has a radiant mixing block which tempers the water and we don’t aim to achieve an ideal slab temperature but the proper room temperature. Some clients think they can have 80 degree floors but if they do they’ll have 80 degree rooms. So unless they want to run AC to bring down the room temp in order to maintain an 80 degree floor your just heating the space like any other heating system so a wall sensor is all you need IMHO.
