Transfer light control signal over RS-485

Hello, I have singlemode fibernetworking installed in the building and we use sdi over fiber extenders for cctv cameras and we have free RS-485 channel for each unit, so I thought maybe we could employ this for transferring light contol signal, how can I generate control signal which will be suitable for RS485 data channel? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!
