Hybrid repeater antenna
This may be a dumb question, but is there any definitive or published recommendation for the orientation of the repeater antenna? I have always thought vertical would provide the best coverage, but that may not be true. Any help would be appreciated as this is becoming an in house argument...

I don't know of anything definitive or published but... Lutron states the repeater has a 30' radius. If you think about moving that 60' diameter sphere 3 or 4 inches by moving the antenna, have you really accomplished anything?
Having said that, I have found that pointing the antenna sometimes helps.

Just to clarify, what I am asking is the orientation of the antenna; vertical VS horizontal and if horizontal what affect will there be if a device is "on axis", (end to end), or "cross axis". All assuming the actual repeater does not move, just the direction of the antenna. I know antennas radiate in certain patterns, I believe relative to frequency, and I believe I have seen diagrams showing a null at the tip with a "doughnut" of radiated energy around the length of the antenna, but I cannot seem to find that document. I was hoping that Lutron may have published something specific in the past regarding this.

This is an AMX device that uses Clear Connect technology. Page 2 says to orient the antenna vertically - not horizontally.

This is a link to a discussion on this site. Post 5 says vertical as well. He doesn't provide any support, just states that he is a HAM guy.

So... what was the bet and did you win?

Thanks RandyC, never thought to look at a different manufacturer.
No bet...........and victory may be uncertain, thanks again!

Antenaae positioning in most cases isn’t a big deal but think of your RF radiation pattern as a donut and the tip of the antennae at the center. The patern is usually wider than it is high not a full circle in all directions so straight up you have an increased horizontal plane, straight to either side you have an increased vertical plane.
